Visual Arts

Since all of creation and truth are connected in the Lordship of Christ, we believe the arts can be a powerful tool in the classroom. Mathematics forms a framework for visual art and music.

Eastwood students have the option of competing in various community and state competitions during the school year. Submitting artwork for inclusion in art shows provides an opportunity to share student work, learn about how artwork is perceived by others, learn the mechanics of competing in art shows, and encourages a valuable learning environment to engage with the art produced by other students.

First through fifth grade ECS students will learn the grammar of art through a weekly art class. In it, they will be exposed to the language of art through vocabulary and early skills of artistic observation. They will be challenged to develop artistic skills through work in class and will observe historic artwork to help them grasp these concepts.

In 8th grade, students take Art Appreciation, a class that enables them to think about the components of art, how those components have been used throughout the history of art, and what art says about culture and philosophy. The class includes project work to further understand the production of art, as well as a visit to our local Art Museum, The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.
