Musical Arts

The power of melody helps students remember important information. Projects help to reinforce important concepts while allowing students to engage their creativity in the learning process.

In 9th grade, students take “Understanding Music”, a class that enables them to recognize the components of “high art” music. They are exposed to the basics of music, the components of an orchestra, and they learn to listen to and recognize various styles of music. They gain an appreciation for the ability of music to convey ideas and emotions.

Eastwood’s grammar school music enrichment program recognizes the value of musical artistic expression and fosters a love of music throughout the school day.  The enrichment program teaches students about great composers, introducing them to the life stories and music of many talented men and women. Students receive a foundation in the grammar of music theory as they learn to read notes, understand the importance of each note’s value, and study music composition.  They also experience the joy of singing, body percussion, games, movement, and playing musical instruments.  

Eastwood desires for students to develop their musical knowledge and skills while encouraging them to see the beauty of music, acknowledge the value of communicating in a unique language, and experience the glory of worshipping God through song. Colossians 3:16 directs us to “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”
